New gamestyle Idea

Post by Balthazar » Fri Aug 01, 2008 7:47 am

Hehe, here`s one more crazy idea about TA3D modding.

It would be nice to have something like Capture the Flag style.

The game description:

Medium-sized map, like 10x20 or 15x25 or so.
Two teams, the red one and the blue one. Even number of players.

Each team have it`s own castle (very simple at the start) and one castle-keeper (leader from each team).

Each team member have only one land (or hover) unit and can control only it.

Every castle have a flag, that could be captured by the enemy unit and dragget to the home castle.

All units could gain experience and level-up, killing enemy units and neutral units, that walks over the map and controlled by AI.

Castle-keeper the only one who can build things (like walls, turrets and powerplants) and give orders to other team members. (Castle keeper see all the map uncovered, the other players see all in Fog of War), but cannot directly controls other units - only select and give orders where to move (players will see on the minimap castle-keeper disired route and could follow or don`t follow it).

Team, that scores for example 20 times - wins.

Something like that. I think it could be funny. Any suggestions?

First person view - is not the neccesary thing here :) But could make a gameplay funnier :)

ha, ok you meant hero style like in warcraft III :), I though you refered to savage :D .

Anyway, once the engine is finished it should be able to run a RTS, a FPS, a simulation game (like plane simulation :P), ... all this on huge maps :D .
What will make the game style will be scripting :) . So default scripts will let you play TA in 3D, but you may also load TAFPS scripts, etc ...

Yeah, like in Warcraft III. I`ll try to create such modification when all the neccesary thing will be ready.

If you do TAFPS then could you ride the nuke like you do in unreal?
That would be a blast.

Or even more fun have a bunch of units slaved to you in shoot what I shoot mode. Amphibious tanks sneaking up to the beach and fire targeting for the timed bombers conveniently overhead sounds like it could get addicting.
The view from the cockpit of the tank as you breach the water would be hard to do though.
Don't just look at the future through a window.
Open a door and go there.

FPS view will require some camera tweaks, but it's far from impossible :) .

Also this will be scripted so if we can access weapon data we can ride them :P

Hell, why are you so interesting in FPS view in RTS game?? Yes, it may be funny, but faaaar from usefull playable option. Just a useless feature, at least with current set of graphical resources.

of course in a RTS it's not very useful, but the more feature we can put in the engine the fewer limits modders will have :P .

And a RTS engine is the perfect engine if you want to make a FPS mod in battlefield style :D
